Cleola A. Callahan, MSW

Founder & Chief Executive Officer,

A proud Birmingham native and product of the Birmingham City School System, Cleola A. Callahan is a dynamic leader whose life’s work reflects her unwavering commitment to education, advocacy, and community empowerment. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, from Alabama State University, a Bachelor of Social Work from Miles College, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Her career includes ten years of direct service to survivors of domestic violence, with eight of those at YWCA Central Alabama, where she advanced through several leadership roles, including Director of Shelter Services and ultimately Executive Director of Domestic Violence Services. Through her leadership, she helped to create safer spaces for women and families seeking hope and restoration. Callahan currently serves as a Compliance Specialist and Standards Recertification Monitor with the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV). In this role, she provides oversight, training, and technical assistance to domestic violence programs statewide, ensuring accountability, compliance, and quality service delivery for survivors across Alabama.

As the Founder and CEO of Haven of Hope Empowerment Services, Mrs. Callahan leads with empathy, excellence, and determination. Haven of Hope provides advocacy, education, and empowerment programs designed to help survivors heal, rebuild, and restore their lives with dignity and strength. Under her leadership, the organization is breaking cycles of abuse and building a community where every individual is seen, supported, and equipped to thrive. What sets Mrs. Callahan apart is not only her professional expertise but her personal connection to the mission she leads. As a survivor of domestic violence, she has transformed her pain into purpose — using her own experience as the driving force behind her dedication to empowering others. Her story is a testament to resilience and redemption — proof that survival can lead to purpose, and that hope, when shared, becomes healing for others.
